The short story is first published in the US in The Blue Book Magazine in June 1924 under the title The Hunter's Lodge Case.

However, the short story is originally published in the UK in The Sketch Magazine in 1923 on May 16: The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge.

Alternative title:

The short story has also been published in the US several years later (in July 1958) under the title Investigation by Telegram (Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine)
