The short story is first published in the US in The Blue Book Magazine in March 1925: The Veiled Lady.

However, the short story is originally published in the UK in The Sketch Magazine in 1923 on October 3 under the title The Case of the Veiled Lady.

Alternative title:

The short story has also been published in the US several years later (in March 1961) under the title The Chinese Puzzle Box 1961 (Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine).
