The short story is first published in The Strand Magazine (UK) in July 1937 (Vol. 93, No. 559) with illustrations by Jack M. Faulks.

In the US the short story is first published in Hartford Courant on October 10 in 1937 under the title Case of the Yellow Iris with an unsigned illustration.

 

Alternative title:

The short story has also been published under the title Hercule Poirot and the Sixth Chair in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine (US) in 1966 (Vol. 48, No. 6).
