The short story is first published in The Sketch Magazine on February 20 in 1924 (No. 1621) as part eight in the series The Man Who Was Number Four:
Further Adventures of M. Poirot under the title - and together with - The Baited Trap.

In the US there is no publication prior to the book publication in September 1927.

    Published in the US later the same year: American Edition.
