The short story is first published in The Sketch Magazine (UK) on December 12 in 1923 (No. 1611) as part twelve of the second series of The Grey Cells of M. Poirot under the title The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding.

The short story also exists in a revised - longer - version under the title The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding.
This version is first published in the British short story collection The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding and a Selection of Entrées 1960.
NOTE! This version is not the same one as in the magazine above.

The longer version of the short story also exists in a revised version under the title The Theft of the Royal Ruby.
This version of the short story is first published in This Week Magazine (US) in 1960 in two parts published September 25 and October 2 with illustrations by William A. Smith.
